Planes are like wines

... because the older they are the better they get.

Since Lola is part of our family, she undergoes permanent upgrades. One of the known problems of the Twin Comanche itself, is a very weak fuel system. Lola has 6 tanks in total which carry 120 gallons of fuel, enough to stay 10h in the air or to fly non-stop from the middle of Germany to Palermo, Sicily and still have enough reserve to enjoy the Amalfi coast. But on the other hands also 6 tanks to carry debris, dirt, rubber particles and some even found rat skeletons in there. Those block by time the fuel nozzles causing a starvation of the sooo needed fresh AVGAS. That problem is very hard to find unless you have an engine monitoring system that watches all the values of each cylinder. (Ask me how I know :-).

Long story short: Lola has now 2(!) fuel monitoring systems. One for the amount of fuel (or should I say Euros) that runs through it- integrated in the EDM760- and another one to measure the pressure. So if one nozzle is blocked, fuel flow remains the same but pressure increases.

Palermo, put the wine on the table. We are on our way :-)

Wine tasting.

Getting up at five. Taking a hot air balloon. And gliding over the Napa Valley when the sun came out. But the most impressing moment of the day was landing. On a narrow road in the middle of the vineyards.

That's wine tasting.
Literally.
